Southport Circuit Welcomes Christopher Humble as Superintendent

Born in Middlesbrough, to Methodist parents with a Methodist heritage going back to the time of John Wesley. I was brought up in the sea-side town of Saltburn-by-the-sea on the Yorkshire coast which predominantly welcomed day trippers from Teesside. From sixth form college I went to the University of Lancaster to read History but switched to eventually emerge with a degree in Religious Studies. Whilst at University I was jointly confirmed into the Church of England and the Methodist Church and began the journey towards becoming a local preacher. I sensed a call to ministry and tested this out by taking on a role as a Lay Worker at a city centre church in Exeter. From there I candidated for the ministry and was sent to Lincoln Theological College to train alongside Anglican ordinands’  and completed a further degree in Theology. I have since then served in the following circuits:- Leeds (Headingley), Amersham, Grimsby & Cleethorpes (where I served as superintendent), York and latterly West Durham, as superintendent. These appointments have been diverse in terms of city centre, rural, small town and urban contexts.
For more than forty years I have had the enrichment of ecumenical encounter in my life and ministry. At various times I have served as Synod Secretary, Presbyteral Synod Secretary, District Ecumenical Officer, member of the District Leadership Team and Secretary of the District Policy Committee.
I am married to Judith, who has a passion for fairtrade, has worked as a nanny and who also has strong ecumenical links. I have three grown up children, Abigail lives in Rochdale and is getting married to Liam next year, Naomi is currently in Grimsby having completed a degree and post-grad in Sports Science & Nutrition and Joe is in the army serving as a PT Instructor with the Royal Corps of Signals in Blandford. I try to keep in contact with my wider family of cousins which is quite extensive.
I gave up my season ticket at Middlesbrough some time ago! but maintain an interest in football. I also enjoy listening to classical music and have sung in various choirs over the years.
We will be coming to Southport with our dog Noah who is a rescue dog. He is a lurcher aged 2 and looks forward to exploring the coast.
We look forward to sharing in ministry alongside you as we share in worship and mission.
Rev. Christopher Humble
